The Race That Counts

Julie came to me with brightest eyes and big smile ready to tackle this challenging part of her cancer journey.  We quickly bonded on the topic of marathon running.  She chose to frame her cancer journey through the eyes of running a marathon.  She diligently sent updates after her chemo treatments, referring to each of them as a ‘hill’. While running the race she thanked her supportive family and friends as ‘cheerleaders’ along the race course. The sheer physical and emotional grit that it takes to run a marathon transfers well tothe endurance needed to fight and win a cancer battle.  She shared on such an intimate level the agonies and joys of her journey.  We would both wholeheartedly agree there is nothing like crossing the finish liine with the title ‘cancer survivor’.
